Double!

2009-09-30

The Harvest Fair isn’t all cider making and sheep wrestling, there’s also a hotly contested pie baking contest.

I’ve been pushing my wife to enter because she’s the best cook and baker I know — and she proved it. Her entry of a sour cherry pie took home not just Best Sweet but Best Crust too! It was the first double winner in the contest’s history!

I love my wife and I’m very proud of her.

Tough.

2009-09-27

Prior to Saturday morning I was most comfortable with wool in the form of my favorite Ibex sweater, this was still true after Saturday but I understood the origin of that sweater a little better.

You’ll notice this adult ram is staring me down and won’t come any nearer the fence. He remembered me. I had helped unload him from the back of a pickup, responsible for holding his horns and keeping him from getting up while we moved him into a pen for a shearing demonstration at the Harvest Fair.

Underneath all that wool is really powerful animal!

Radicchio.

I’m a big fan of radicchio, especially grilled and from our garden.
