Toe Jam Hill Half Marathon
The Toe Jam Hill Half Marathon is held in April on beautiful Bainbridge Island. It's a rather strenuous run gaining about 1400 feet in elevation with the hardest section being the climb up Toe Jam Hill itself — so strenuous an ambulance waits at the top.
The course (at least the 2007 version) is roughly an out-and-back and takes the runners to the southern end if the Island near Fort Ward State Park, through the former parade grounds and by the all brick officers' homes. It's a pleasant run with some great spectators and little-to-no car traffic.
The course undulates considerably and the 30% grade of Toe Jam Hill half way through the course is noticeable on the legs.
